IOM will continue supporting the WASH Cluster strategy to ensure immediate lifesaving aid in areas lacking a strong presence of WASH partners able to respond accordingly to the needs present.

Improving Human Security for Vulnerable Displaced Populations and Host Communities in South Sudan affected by Food Insecurity, Flooding and Conflict

Through this project, IOM aims to set up a multi-sectoral emergency response team composed of Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Shelter and Non Food Items (NFI), and Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) experts that can be immediately deployed to priority locations to address the most urgent needs of vulnerable populations affected by violence, cholera, flooding and/or food insecurity. Emergency Humanitarian Assistance to the Refugee Population in Upper Nile State, South Sudan (PRM)

IOM plans to upgrade existing services and infrastructure in order to provide more sustainable solutions such as solar powered water supply systems. Presently at Doro camp, the water consumed daily by over 48,000 refugees is pumped from aquifers through 18 motorized pumping stations, disinfected with chlorine, and distributed across the camp through 18 kilometres of piping networks. The water is regularly tested to ensure that it is safe to drink.

Improving Humanitarian Response in Hard to Reach Areas Through the Deployment of IOM Mobile Rapid Response Teams in South Sudan

Providing lifesaving assistance in hard to reach areas has been identified by the humanitarian community as both a critical need and a major gap in the response to date. This project aims to address this though the establishment of a mobile rapid response team, deployable within a week of being tasked by the ICWG. The mobile team will consist of Shelter/NFI, WASH and health operations experts with the capacity to respond in two field locations simultaneously. The project is developed in line with the parameters outlined in the CHF reserve policy paper released on 30 May 2014.

Providing Life-Saving Interventions to IDPs in Camps and Camp-Like Settlements through CCCM Interventions - South Sudan
