Providing Burundian Refugees and their Belongings with Safe and Dignified Transport from Border to Camps in Tanzania

IOM will continue to facilitate smooth and dignified transportation of refugees from entry points and relocate refugees as required between camps, to reduce decongestion. IOM will also continue to ensure that persons with special needs and vulnerabilities are prioritized and receive medical attention when needed. Fit-to-travel health checks will be conducted and treatment/stabilization administered as needed prior to the movement of passengers, and refugees will continue to receive information on special hygiene measures and cholera prevention during their travel to the camp.

Life-Saving Humanitarian Assistance to Burundian Refugees in Tanzania

Overcrowding at Nyarugusu reached a critical level with a population of over 150,000 residing in a camp that was intended for a population of 50,000. The assessments conducted indicated urgent needs and challenges in relocation including safety and security, WASH, Health, Shelter, and accessibility. The project aims to: 1. Ensure timely, safe and dignified transportation of the Burundian refugees from Nyarugusu Refugee Camp to two new sites, Mtendeli and Nduta. 2. Ensure timely, safe and dignified transportation of the Burundian refugees from entry points to the designated refugee camps.

Provide Protection and Assistance including Transportation to Nyaragusu Camp to Burundian - Tanzania

CERF funds will guarantee the rescue of people from danger due to congested and uninhabitable sites. The activities related to the IOM response in the area of emergency evacuation and transportation services from the entry points in Tanzania to the Nyarugusu refugee camp and supported by CERF funds have the objective of transporting 40,000 men, women and children refugees by boat, on foot (alternative mountain path) and bus in a safe, timely, and dignified manner, with specific consideration for vulnerable refugees and fit-to-travel checks before they move.

Health vulnerabilities study of mixed migration flows from the East and Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes Region to Southern Africa

The study investigated and analysed Health Vulnerabilities of mixed migration flows from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia and Somalia en route to Southern Africa. The main aim of the study was to generate data that responds to the policy needs of mixed migration flows between the concerned regions and to improve the health conditions of migrants throughout the process.
