Migration Health Research Area/Expertise
I am a recent graduate of master’s degree in Health Policy from Imperial College London, with 6 years of experience in public health, healthcare management and health economics. As an individual passionate about contributing to global health equity I have a keen interest in the challenges brought about by migration. Circumstances such as war and conflicts, climate change and COVID-19 pandemic, have led to a dramatic increase in the number of migrants. Consequently, increasing the need for access to healthcare and integration into the healthcare systems, infrastructure, access to vaccination and mental health support. Policy is a core element in providing safety and equity for migrants and I believe that my skills and knowledge gained through my study and work experience will be instrumental in the provision of valuable research and advocacy to policymakers.
During my MSc I wrote a dissertation on effectiveness of changes in ‘Quality and Outcomes Framework during the pandemic’. This involved: data collection using 3 methods (interviews, surveys and document review); analysis with the application of the constant comparative approach; use of IBM SPSS and MS Excel (applied tools: crosstabulation, correlation, chi-square).
I also gained experience of evaluating a policy with the team; policy evaluation process involved the application of the critical appraisal tool AMSTAR-2; PESTLE framework to analyse external factors of policy implementation. I learned how to bring effective change to policy, applying model for the improvement and PDSA cycle; In the process I also applied economic theory and methods to identify likely costs and benefits of the policy, and designed the economic evaluation of the policy.
During my BA dissertation I conducted research, which also involved data collection through interviews and surveys. Similar to my master's dissertation, I used MS Excel and IBM SPSS for data synthesis and analysis.
During my work at Medical Corporation Evex, I conducted monthly analysis of qualitative and quantitative data from medical cases to identify areas of improvement in processes. I gained experience in public health research on a nationwide scale during my internship at the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in the Department of Government Programs' Management. Additionally, while volunteering for NCDC, I supported the team in the design of surveys for population behaviour in relation to C-Hepatitis
I am certified MS Excel - Data Analyst. I studied IBM SPSS during my BA and achieved a score of 86/100.
I admire the work that IOM does and am fully aligned with the values and principles of the organisation. I will enjoy applying my skills and knowledge acquired through my study and work to the mission of Migration Health and Development Research Initiative. I look forward to bringing change working with you.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
