Migration Health Research Area/Expertise
I would be delighted to develop IOM’s publication on promoting access to health and other health-related considerations in analysing migration and asylum policies.

First of all, I have a solid track record of research on migration and health, in particular from a gender-sensitive perspective. I have contributed to the ITFLOWS H2020 research with an intersectional perspective – a comparative report on Gendered Migrant Integration Outcomes, including on health, with some promising practices from 8 EU Member States.

Secondly, I have more than seven years of professional research experience in migration and asylum governance at the Brussels-based think tank CEPS, where I have been working for seven years, as a Research Fellow. Here I have co-authored more than 40 publications ranging from book chapters to studies, op-eds and academic articles.

Thirdly, I have relevant academic credentials. I received my master’s degree in 2011 in Human Rights from the Legal Studies Department of the Central European University. My master’s thesis focused on Migrant Domestic Workers in the EU. I explored human rights avenues for advancing their rights. I earned my Bachelor of Political Sciences at Vytautas Magnus University, Institute for Politics and Diplomacy in 2008. My thesis focused on Migrants’ Status and Rights in the EU, where access to health was also discussed.

In addition to policy-oriented research, I led and/or acted as a consultant for several organizations working in the area of human rights in Hungary, Lithuania, Malta, the Netherlands, and South Africa. For instance, for the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, I have compiled an advocacy paper on ‘Conditions in the Detention Centers in Hungary: Access to Psycho/social Assistance’ in 2011. In 2014, the IOM in Lithuania contracted me to write articles about Migrant Health for the Lithuanian journal ‘Veidas’ aimed at a non-academic audience.

2019, for diverse achievements in the area of civil society and human rights, I was nominated among 100 women who make all Lithuanians around the Globe proud.

I delivered presentations at the European Parliament, the European Commission, the European Economic and Social Committee, the OSCE and the OECD as well as with and for civil society organisations like PICUM, ECRE, AI, HRW, and European Civic Forum.

Last year, EUROCITIES and the Lithuanian Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour contracted me as a consultant to provide input for local authorities on promising practices for migrant integration (including access to health) across the EU from a gender perspective. For the Global Lithuanian Leaders- Migration taskforce I have devised an international advocacy strategy to preclude the legalisation of push-backs at the Lithuanian-Belarus border.

In summary, I am committed to further access to health, human rights-based and gender-sensitive approaches in Global as well as the EU’s internal and external migration policies. I have proven research experience to complete the research tasks with the excellence that is expected by the IOM, WHO, and other UN colleagues.
