The Regional Dialogue on the Health Challenges for Asian Labour Migrants was held 13-14 July, 2010 in Bangkok, Thailand. Organized by UNDP, IOM and UNAIDS in cooperation with WHO, ILO and the Joint UN Initiative on Mobility & HIV/AIDS in South East Asia (JUNIMA), the meeting served as a preparation for the upcoming Colombo Process Ministerial Consultations (early 2011, Dhaka), where migrants’ health issues are expected to be discussed for the first time.

Article featured in Global Health Diplomacy - Fall of 2013. The article discussed the challenge to elevate the health of migrants to the post-2015 development framework that is discussed at the highest level by political leaders around the world. IOM believes there are three key arguments why the health of migrants should be addressed in the post-2015 development agenda: 1) migrants have a right to health; 2) including migrants in health systems improves public health outcomes; and 3) healthy migrants contribute to positive development outcomes.

The TB response needs to be a priority in health and migration, given its profound health and social consequences and the health security threat posed by this top airborne infectious killer.

This article is the first in the State-of-the-Art series of the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease on TB and migration. It provides an overview of migration trends, migration pathways and social determinants, and impact on TB. This article outlines a framework for the prevention and reduction of the TB burden among migrants, adapted from the World Health Organization's End TB Strategy, and in accordance with the Stop TB Partnership's Global Plan and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda.

The International Organization for Migration, in response to the call made by the World Health Organization for papaers on "Health in the post-2015 development agenda", has submitted a position paper entitled "The importance of migrants' health for sustainable and equitable development" for the thematic consultation on health. The paper calls for specific attention to underlying determinants of health that relate to mobility and migration and explians why migrants' health is a cross-cutting development issue that should be addressed in the post-2015 development agenda.

This article examines gaps and good practices in ensuring social protection in health for migrant workers and argues that, as both migration and health are enablers for development, health should be discussed in global migration and development debates. The GFMD and the High Level Dialogue on International Migration and Development (HLD) are important venues to address the health of migrant workers, and this article provides views on how policies and multisectoral partnerships can promote healthier and safer labour migration for development.
