Global Health Assessment Programme - resettlements in Australia (HAPA)

At the request of the Government of Australia, IOM carries out migration health assessment and DNA sample collection services for immigration self-payer applicants referred by local Australian High Commissions, in accordance with the Australian government’s instructions for the medical and radiological examination of Australian visa applicants.

At the request of governments and entities other than the Governments of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom and United States, IOM carries out migration health assessment, DNA sample collection, age assessment, and pre-departure medical assessment services for refugees, returnees, students and immigration self-payer applicants referred by various governments and entities, such as UNHCR.

Responding to Migrants’ Vulnerability to Malaria and Understanding the Migration and Epidemiology of Artemisnin-Resistant Malaria in Binh Phuoc Province of Viet Nam

This project proposes to enhance the knowledge base on vulnerabilities to malaria and artemisnin resistance as related to population mobility in Binh Phuoc Province in Viet Nam. There will be a comprehensive assessment of the impact of population mobility and migration in malaria-endemic areas and recommendations for targeted interventions addressing the nexus between mobility and the spread of malaria. The findings will be disseminated to key stakeholders at the central and provincial levels.

Workplace-Based Prevention & Employment & Supportive Services for High-Risk Individuals in Vietnam

The objective of this project is to speed up the adoption of a comprehensive HIV prevention package in workplaces with high concentrations of high-risk individuals. The scope of the project is to develop a training curricula on HIV prevention for peer educators at workplace settings, targeting high-risk individuals including injecting drug users (IDUs) and female sex workers (FSWs). The project will complement existing manual, guidelines, and toolkits related to HIV training for peer educators, including specific needs and priorities that have been identified by Chemonics.

Promoting Gender Equality and Women Empowerment, Vietnam

The objective of this project is to reduce women’s vulnerability to issues associated with migration and increased population mobility along the newly opened route, including their vulnerability to HIV/AIDS, sexual exploitation and trafficking. This will be achieved by strengthening the socio-economic empowerment of women and increasing awareness amongst women and men on issues related to gender, HIV/AIDs and trafficking in women. Target beneficiaries will be better able to utilize opportunities brought by the new roads while reducing their vulnerabilities to various risks.

Programme Support for HIV Activities and Infrastructure Projects

The overall goal is to contribute towards national efforts to reduce HIV vulnerability and risk behaviour among migrants, mobile workers and mobility-affected communities in Vietnam and the region. The project purpose is to pilot the safe mobility and HIV package in an infrastructure project setting so that the package implementation can be documented in the ADB toolkit on infrastructure and HIV prevention and used throughout the region in strategic, coordinated approach.

Migration Health Resolution (MHR) Support Project to Vietnam

The project intends to mobilise departments within the Ministry of Health to strategise on how mainstream migration into policies and national health programmes, and facilitate information sharing on the physical, social, and mental well-being of migrants. The project will lead to a better understanding of the importance of supporting migrants and greater inclusion of migrants into the national health programme, future project activities, and increased partnerships with other organisations on the issue.
