IOM - Capacity Building of Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) for Tripartite Project in Dhaka

The goal of the project is to build capacity of law enforcement agencies to understand the extent of the drug dependence issues, strengthen referral systems for drug dependence treatment, and deliver HIV awareness and prevention messages to the community they serve to support the reduction of drug dependency and prevent HIV. 

HIV Preventive Education and Services for the Labour Migrants

The 1st phase of the project will be implemented in collaboration with Bureau of Manpower, Employment & Training (BMET), private medical check-up centers for the labor migrants and the recruiting agencies. The HIV component will be included in the pre-departure orientation training program of BMET. It will be done through advocacy, need-assessment, consultative meetings and strategic partnering with BMET. BMET trainers (Master Trainers) will get training on HIV prevention and will impart it during their regular training session for migrants.

Addressing Health Issues of Victims of Human Trafficking and Abuse in Jessore and Satkhira Districts, Bangladesh

The general objective of the proposed intervention is to enable the right to health of victims of human trafficking and abuse in Jessore and Satkhira districts, Khulna division, Bangladesh. The specific objective is to strengthen a quality and integrated health service within the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) services and structures (duty bearers) accessible to the victims of human trafficking and abuse (right holders) in Jessore and Satkhira districts, Khulna division, Bangladesh.

Prevalence of and risk factors for active tuberculosis in migrants screened before entry to the UK: a population-based cross-sectional study

Background: An increasing number of countries with low incidence of tuberculosis have pre-entry screening programmes for migrants. We present the fi rst estimates of the prevalence of and risk factors for tuberculosis in migrants from 15 high-incidence countries screened before entry to the UK.

Results from early programmatic implementation of Xpert MTB/RIF testing in nine countries

Background: The Xpert MTB/RIF assay has garnered significant interest as a sensitive and rapid diagnostic tool to improve detection of sensitive and drug resistant tuberculosis. However, most existing literature has described the performance of MTB/RIF testing only in study conditions; little information is available on its use in routine case finding. TB REACH is a multi-country initiative focusing on innovative ways to improve case notification.
