Migration Health Research Area/Expertise
Migration, health and climate change,
pandemic biopolitics ,
migration health governance,
transnational politics with particular focus on health at the border
and health in transit.
While doing my MA in Migration and Displacement studies, I first interacted with migration and health. I did a course on Migration, Mobility and Health in Southern Africa as part of my MA curriculum. My knowledge and understanding of migration and health issues were further deepened when I attended several short courses on the subject. These include the Virtual Institute, Global Health Histories, Contagion & Migration:(Bio) Citizenship in Africa (2022) -African Academy for Migration Research(AAMR), Online Course Migration and Health Certificate (2021)-Makerere -University, and Centre for Health and Migration, Vienna, Austria and the Refugee and Migrant Health Who Global School on Refugee and Migrant Health (2021). I also collaborated with other migration and health researchers to write a paper entitled, “Climate change aggravating migration and health issues in the African context: The views and direct experiences of a community of interest in the field”,2023. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jmh.2023.100151. Furthermore, my current PhD project explores the nexus of biopolitics and pandemic response on mobile populations in Southern Africa, with a specific focus on transient migrants at the border.
