Migration Health Research Area/Expertise
My PhD thesis in international health at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, was titled "the health of immigrants: representations and practices of health and illness in the Cape Verdean community in Lisbon" (2006). Since 1995, I have been involved in several research projects and publications related to health and migration. I participated in many projects within public health in Portuguese-speaking African countries, and national projects concerning migrants’ health, including access and use of health services, the health of elderly migrants. Lately, I have been involved in research projects related to refugee’s relocation in Portugal and have been participating in international research on the prevention of bullying with newly arrived migrants (students).
