Study on Managing Migration of Human Resources for Health in Kenya

This study is meant to assess the social and economic 'costs and benefits' of migration of health workers in Kenya both internally and externally, to identify mechanisms of monitoring enabling an effective management of the dynamics of the migration of HRH and assist decision makers in formulating policies that reduce negative impacts and maximize possible positive effects.

Situation Assessment and Programme Model Development among Migrant Female Sex Workers in Hot-spot Areas of Nairobi

Agencies involved in sex worker programmes in Nairobi note that migrants are not being reached by their programmes and welcome this study. The study will offer strategic information for intensifying prevention programmes among a key population that is currently overlooked by the national response. This study builds upon groundbreaking work of IOM in Somalia that successfully pioneered a methodology for researching HIV in a conservative cultural context, with a focus on sex workers and clients.

Sexual and Gender-based Violence Vulnerability Assessment to support an Action Plan and Resource Mobilization for Extremely Vulnerable Displaced, Minority, and Irregular Migrant Women in Non-camp Settings in Somaliland

The project aims to provide governments and partner agencies with a strategic information document and programme proposal to facilitate extension of the United Nations Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) HIV and Gender-based Violence Guidelines and to address the needs of displaced women in non-camp situations during the post-acute emergency phase. 

Pastoralism and HIV-AIDS in the Horn of Africa - Programme Mapping, Data Synthesis, and Recommendations for Policy and Further Research (PAHA)

The project objective is to assist IGAD and Member States to develop improved and holistic regional responses to the challenge of HIV/AIDS and pastoralism in the Horn of Africa. The study involves mapping of existing programmes, collection / synthesis of existing data from governments and implementing partners, and key informant interviews with UN/NGO actors, researchers, government officers, and pastoralist representatives in the region, ultimately for developing a strategy with costed action plan for regional holistic programming on HIV and pastoralism.

Migration of Human Resources for Health (HRH) in Kenya - Validation Workshop

A two day National workshop will be held to validate the results of three studies on the migration of HRH in Kenya. The results of the workshop will contribute to a regional conference to be held in December, 2007 on the migration of HRH in East Africa. The objectives of the two day National Stakeholder Workshop are: 1. To validate findings from three study reports produced by the contracted consultants on Managing Migration of Human Resources for Health in Kenya, 2. Joint Programme of Support on AIDS in Kenya

This project aims to bring about national consensus and to mobilize / channel resources for a targeted programme that implements the programme framework outlined above. This will be achieved through engagement of UN and non-UN stakeholders, and through supporting NACC coordination, data gathering / data sharing, targeted advocacy, programme conceptualization, and resource mobilization. The overall objective is to contribute towards a strengthened national and trans-border response to HIV along transport corridors and in port areas in Kenya.

The project's aim is to strengthen social dialogue, build mechanisms for information exchange and consult within the national administration system. This is in recognition of the great potential of social dialogue to contribute positively to the development and reforms of health services, which enables them to draw upon their knowledge and experience.
