Migration Health Research Area/Expertise
My engagement and interest in the domain of migration health revolves mostly around older persons and their families, particularly those living in countries undergoing rapid demographic change. While older persons are less frequently migrants they are frequently impacted upon by migration of family members and other persons within their communities. As such, I have studied left behind populations and written academic studies on related issues in Thailand and Cambodia and have conducted a primary data collection on the topic in Romania. I am interested in health outcomes of older persons but also in related outcomes such as economic and instrumental support and living arrangements. In addition to this, I conducted a nationally based study on migration in Cambodia that was called the Cambodian Rural Urban Migration Project or CRUMP. This study produced a rich and broad set of primary data on migration in Cambodia, resulted in several reports, and influenced policy in Cambodia.
