Migration Health Research Area/Expertise
I am a Masters students with the African Centre for Migration & Society (ACMS) at the University of the Witwatersrand. My research focusses on the relationship between internal migration, access to antenatal healthcare, and mental health in Johannesburg, South Africa. Asking: What are the experiences of pregnant women, who have moved from rural to urban areas, in accessing antenatal healthcare in public healthcare facilities in South Africa? What impact, if any, do these experiences have on their mental health? Is there psychosocial support available to these women and if so, what is the state of this kind of support? Is it easily accessible? Is it available for the duration of their pregnancy?
