Migration Health Research Area/Expertise
My current research work, as part of my dissertation project, looks at 'maternal health and child malnutrition among migrant households engaged in construction work: Experiences, household challenges, policy gaps’. The data for this mixed-methods project was collected across various construction sites in the city of Ahmedabad, located in the state of Gujarat, western India. The study concentrates on the urban health and nutritional experiences of temporary migrants working and living on construction sites. It uses a mixed-methods approach to study anthropometric measurements, and qualitatively understand the daily challenges migrant families encounter in fulfilling the nutritional needs of their children and accessing maternal health care while living in the city. It also examines various policies and interventions for migrant families and investigates if they are able to access the same in the city.
