Migration Health Research Area/Expertise
I am a public health physician focused on health access and nutrition. My work with migrants and refugees began in 2013-2014, working with the Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU) based in Mae Sot, Thailand, as a research fellow focused on maternal infant feeding practices and chronic malnutrition among refugees and migrants within these border communities. I returned to Thailand in 2017 to continue work with SMRU, and now have a joint position as an associate researcher for Chiang Mai University Faculty of Medicine in northern Thailand that also tends to the health needs of migrant communities. In addition to public health nutrition for these vulnerable populations, I have incorporated quantitative as well as social science methods in research for migrant health that includes: community engagement; health literacy; health policy and practice; field-based diagnostics. I received my MD from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (Texas, USA) and my MPH from Boston University School of Public Health (Massachusetts, USA).
