Preparedness and vulnerability of African countries against importations of COVID-19: a modelling study

Background: The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic has spread from China to 25 countries. Local cycles of transmission have already occurred in 12 countries after case importation. In Africa, Egypt has so far confirmed one case. The management and control of COVID-19 importations heavily rely on a country's health capacity. Here we evaluate the preparedness and vulnerability of African countries against their risk of importation of COVID-19.

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)-HIV Knows No Borders: Stories of change and best practices

‘SRHR-HIV Knows No Borders’ has been designed as a holistic, regional project to improve sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and HIV-related outcomes amongst migrants (including migrant adolescents, young people and sex workers), as well as non-migrant adolescents, young people, sex workers and others living in migrationaffected communities. It is being implemented in selected high-volume migration-affected communities, including border communities, in all six countries.

At the International Dialogue on Migration: High-level Conference on Migrants and Cities, organized by IOM and held on October 26-27 in Geneva, the Migrants and cities: partnership in health panel session was presented. The conference brought ministers, high-level government officials, mayors, local authorities, the private sector and civil society organizations together to discuss the complex dynamics of human mobility at city and local levels and how risks can be managed and development opportunities maximized.

Ele recuperou rapidamente e fora-lhe dada uma prótese. Bheki poderia ter continuado a trabalhar, na superfície da mina, mas preferira aposentar-se e auferir a pensão de invalidez. Por sua vez, Sitoe jamais recuperou dos seus ferimentos.

Desk Study on Human Trafficking and HIV-AIDS in East and Southern Africa (STHA)

This study will identify gaps and make recommendations about how to mainstream HIV and AIDS in counter trafficking (CT) responses in East and Southern Africa. It will review existing research on the linkages between human trafficking and HIV vulnerability. It will also look at programme and policy responses from IOM and other organisations where HIV and AIDS have been mainstreamed or integrated into CT responses, and identify examples of good practices.

Pilot Action on Voluntary Return and Sustainable, Community-Based Reintegration

The overall objective is to contribute to the development of sustainable voluntary return and community-based reintegration approaches in targeted partner countries. To support targeted countries of origin, transit and destination to enhance national structures and capacities to facilitate a dignified and sustainable return and reintegration process. To support national authorities of targeted countries in the provision of dignified voluntary return assistance to stranded and vulnerable migrant.
