Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) Preparedness, Risk Reduction and Response among Migrants, Mobile Population and Border Communities in Ghana II

In order to support the government of Ghana’s efforts to prevent Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak, IOM proposes to support the Port Health Unit of the Ghana Health Service and the Ghana Immigration Service with technical guidance and operational support. to strength the EVD surveillance at the strategic border points including Aflao, Sampa, Hamile and Paga land borders.

Intensification of TB Detection among Refugees and Host Communities, Mining and Urban Vulnerable Communities through Mobile Diagnostic Van Using Genexpert Technology in Western Region of Ghana

The overall objective of this project is to contribute to the efforts of the Ghanaian National Tuberculosis Control Programme reduce TB related morbidity and mortality among refugees and their host communities and among mining and urban vulnerable communities in Western Region. The project will be implemented in five locations, four districts (Ellembelle, Jomoro, Tarkwa Nsuaem and Presta/Huni Valley) and the Secondi-Takoradi municipal with a combined population of 1,046,937.

HIV and AIDS Information Dissemination to IOM United Kingdom Tuberculosis Detection (UK TB) Programme Beneficiaries in Ghana (UKTB-Ghana)

The project will disseminate information, education, and communication (IEC) materials on HIV and AIDS as well as on TB to the clients of the IOM-UK TB screening programme in Accra. At this stage of the project, these will consist only of leaflets. Additionally, posters and audiovisual materials will be used to reach programme clients. Since target groups comprise the general population and are quite diverse in terms of HIV-related knowledge and behaviours, materials will not be specifically targeted to the needs of beneficiaries.

HIV Vulnerability Among At Risk Populations in Ghana and along Selected Transport Corridors

The key activities outlined within this proposal will contribute to clear understanding of the various HIV and AIDS determinants (e.g. knowledge and behaviour, access to services, etc.) of female sex workers, their clients and other at-risk populations in and around selected port areas and along corridor routes in Ghana. 

Prevalence of and risk factors for active tuberculosis in migrants screened before entry to the UK: a population-based cross-sectional study

Background: An increasing number of countries with low incidence of tuberculosis have pre-entry screening programmes for migrants. We present the fi rst estimates of the prevalence of and risk factors for tuberculosis in migrants from 15 high-incidence countries screened before entry to the UK.

This publication is a shortened version of the summary report “Mobility of Health Professionals: Health systems, work conditions, patterns of health workers’ mobility and implication for policy makers”, which was published in March 2012, in Bonn, Germany, by a consortium led by Dr. Caren Weilandt at the Wissenschaftliches Institut der Ärzte Deutschlands (WIAD, Scientific Institute of the Medical Association of German Doctors).
