The proposed project aims to: 1) permit a systematic assessment of the satellite health clinics (Puskeslit, SHC) program, 2) support a childbirth emergencies continuing medical education program based in Nagan Raya and Aceh Barat with a focus on bidan (midwife) training to manage post partum hemorrhage and birth asphyxia in home or SHC birthing locations, and 3) strengthen the capacity of health care staff in the abovementioned districts, in additional sectors.
Capacity Building for HIV-AIDS Prevention and Care for Ministry of Health Staff in Mon State, Myanmar

The project will build local capacity by establishing community-based mechanisms for preventing and mitigating the impact of HIV and AIDS in mobility affected areas of the Mon state. The initiative will adapt community-based development models that will enable communities to develop their own programmes for prevention, care and support. The project will work at various levels (national, state/division, township and village) on advocacy and capacity-building to assist communities to further their own understanding of HIV/AIDS and its social and economic impacts. One of the project's objectives is to reduce stigma and promote inclusion through workshops and discussion forums for local authorities (police, immigration, health, etc).

This project will establish community-based mechanisms for preventing and mitigating the impact of HIV and AIDS in mobility-affected areas of the Mon state. Mon state was selected because it is a source and destination area for migrants and because IOM's existing project activities and contacts with migrant communities and local authorities can contribute to the successful implementation of the activities of this project. The initiative will adapt community-based development models, including Participatory Action Research (PAR), to enable communities to develop their own programmes for prevention, care and support. The PAR methodology requires communities to participate in planning and action compared to more traditional health education projects which are externally driven.
Supporting Tsunami-Hit Migrants - Health in Thailand (HSMF)

The aim of this project is to improve health care services and increase health care access for migrants and families who have been affected by the tsunami disaster. The project will include implementation of the following activities: (1) Support the existing Migrant Health Coordination Center so it may continue to deliver health care services, (2) Provide health care services and conduct psychosocial support activities to improve mental health within migrant communities, (3) Strengthen the efficiency of Community Health Workers (CHW) and Community Health Volunteers (CHV) in delivering health services to migrants and families, and (4) Continue to assist local NGOs with the retrieval and identification of bodies that remain unclaimed after the tsunami disaster.

The programme aims to improve the living conditions of people living in transitional accommodations and to develop mid-term and permanent solutions for tsunami affected communities in Sri Lanka. The programme comprises measures to improve the infrastructure of settlement sites, to ensure safe and functioning water supply, sanitation, and waste management structures. Additionally, building on ongoing projects, IOM will assist tsunami survivors in restoring and developing income generating opportunities, avoid the outbreak of communicable diseases and improve the public health situation in the settlements, assist beneficiaries in coping with the social and psychological consequences of the disaster and to enable them to gradually take over core responsibilities in all of these aspects by creating a culture of independence. Emergency Assistance to Mobile and Vulnerable Populations in Zimbabwe (EAZ-CIDA)

The project will continue to provide food and non-food items to approximately 250,000 members of mobile, displaced and vulnerable populations most affected by the drought, Government of Zimbabwe resettlement efforts and Operation Restore Order, and the decline of the Zimbabwe economy. The project will also target ad hoc evictions and displacements that occur in the country. IOM will coordinate and monitor the distribution of food and non-food items through a network of national and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) currently supporting these vulnerable populations countrywide. IOM will also promote practical food-generating activities and shelter for ex-farm workers with land. HIV/AIDS and health activities will be actively addressed amongst these communities to provide prevention and care activities to individuals and their families affected by displacements.

Psychosocial Support for Displaced Families-Children in Sri Lanka Through Pre School and After School Activities

The focus of this project is to continue to support and enhance the current 10 pre schools that are functioning in IOM transitional shelter sites in 3 tsunami affected districts (Trincomalee, Batticaloa & Ampara). The Pre School activities are conducted in the community centres located in the IOM transitional shelter sites. The children attending the pre schools are between 2 and 5 years of age while the after school activities are aimed at older children. Following the tsunami the main objective of the pre schools was to try to create a sense of normality for young children & their families. In addition, the pre school activities sought to build bonds and create a sense of unity between these families who found themselves living in close proximity with people they may not have known.
