Internally Displaced Population in East Timor (IDP-TL II)

This project aims to contribute to the further enhancement of the Government of Timor-Leste's concerted crisis response capacity in the field of IDP care and assistance relevant to the most recent civil disturbances in Dili. Towards this end, IOM shall provide further transport, logistical, and material support and assistance to IDP communities in Timor-Leste. IOM shall also provide emergency health assistance facilities, as well as, logistical support for IDPs towards safe and dignified returns to their home communities. At the end of this 3-month project, IOM shall have: provided transport facilities and other logistical assistance towards transporting food and NFIs to IDP communities, provided emergency medical assistance and health access, provided emergency return transport for IDPs, and identified immediate and medium/long-term reintegration needs.
Emergency Provision of Shelter Assistance to Destitute Households Affected by Operation Murambatsvina (SADH)

The overall goal of the programme is the provision of shelter to the most vulnerable populations affected by Operation Murambatsvina in Harare, Manicaland and Victoria Falls for 375 households. This will be done within the framework of IOM's already funded and ongoing humanitarian assistance programme to mobile and vulnerable populations, which includes distribution of food, non-food items as well as mainstreaming of gender-based violence, HIV and AIDS prevention (as set out in the objectives and activities below).

The project's overall objective is to support the national and international community's response to the earthquake in Yogyakarta, by providing medical and logistics support to the affected population and to national and international aid agencies active in the area. Facilitating Sustainable Return of Sudanese 2006-2007 (Spain)

In order to support an expected 680,000 returnees in the 2006 / 2007 return season, IOM will provide an integrated program of assistance to returning Sudanese, including targeted transportation assistance, medical screening, escorts, return community monitoring and emergency material support with the onset of rains in mid-year. In order to facilitate overnight transit of returnees, IOM is establishing a network of Way Stations along key return routes, supported by field monitoring teams and basic humanitarian services.

The specific objectives are to provide emergency medical assistance for up to 600 victims and/or displaced persons and other vulnerable populations by facilitating medical referrals and arranging local medical evacuations to another health facility; assist up to 1,500 displaced persons who have completed medical treatment and their family escorts return to their places of origin; develop a medical database for those provided medical assistance, and provide such information to the government authorities; distribute essential food and non-food items to affected populations; and provide transportation, storage, communication and coordination support for the distribution of aid to affected areas.

The funding received significantly contributed to four programmes implemented in Yogyakarta: the Medical Programme, the Emergency Shelter Programme, the Transitional Shelter Programme and the Logistics Programme. IOM was able to immediately deploy a team of experienced professionals to implement a wide range of emergency response and recovery activities. These activities include the distribution of approximately 40,000 emergency shelter packages to cover immediate needs, the construction of 13,515 transitional shelters to complement the Government's permanent housing programme, logistics support services that have benefited 165 organisations, and a range of medical programmes targeting the most vulnerable homeless households.

The project will be a continuation of a programme that is aimed to mainstream HIV prevention services and GBV prevention and referral services into the existing humanitarian response specifically within the context of addressing food security and nutrition for vulnerable households.
