IOM and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, USA will create a platform that will enable electronic transfer of medical information generated for the health assessment of US-bound refugees from IOM's Migration Management Operational Software Application (MiMOSA) to CDC's Electronic Disease Notification (EDN) software. The aim is to standardize, expedite and facilitate access of medical information by the CDC and health care personnel who provide post-arrival follow up and management for refugees with medical conditions. Special focus will be given to conditions of public health importance such as tuberculosis and other transmittable diseases.

Despite the crucial issues inherent in their reproductive and sexual health, young people in Senegal, Mali, Mauritania and Guinea continue to have significant and unmet needs for HIV / AIDS and STIs. This worrying situation is worsening even more among young people in these countries living in border communities with strong subregional mobility. This project aims to build the capacity of young people for sexual and reproductive health through knowledge building, training for sexual and reproductive health skills, changing attitudes towards STI / HIV / AIDS, voluntary anonymous testing and referral to care structures. IOM / MRF-Dakar intends to intensify and intensify prevention and care activities for young people in the border areas of Senegal, Mali, Mauritania and Guinea.
Emergency Assistance to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Lebanon (EAL)

Through this project, IOM will assess the needs of the most vulnerable among the estimated one million IDPs in Lebanon and provide site and shelter assistance, transportation, urgently needed 1. IDP site, shelter and relief assistance, 2. emergency transport and voluntary relocation, 3. registration and data analysis, 4. information and 5. preparatory measures for mental health and psychosocial & trauma response. For this purpose, IOM will establish information centres at or near IDP sites to provide accurate information and counselling to both IDPs and local populations as to assistance provided by IOM and other relief partners. Based on IOM's responsibilities within the IASC framework of coordination with relevant UN agencies and ICRC, IOM has been actively participating in the IASC Cluster System as coordination system intended to ensure the timely delivery of humanitarian aid while avoiding duplication.

The project will conduct nationwide information campaign on the risks of and realities of migration and HIV/AIDS which will assist potential Zimbabwean migrants to make informed choices about safe and and legal migration and their health needs. The overall goal of IOM Zimbabwe's 2006 Strategic Plan is to contribute to the management of cross-border (international) and internal migration and to address the needs and vulnerabilities of migrants and mobile populations. More specifically, its purpose is to protect the rights and address the needs of migrants and mobile populations.

The project will provide humanitarian assistance to mobile, displaced and vulnerable populations in Zimbabwe in the form of food, non-food items, water, sanitation, shelter, livelihood interventions as well as emergency health, gender-based violence and HIV/AIDS main-streaming. The overall objective is to save the lives of vulnerable populations affected by forced migration, for the purpose of addressing the humanitarian needs of mobile and vulnerable populations in an equitable manner.
Maimana City Park Project (MCPP)

The objective of this project is to address and improve basic infrastructure needs, within the Faryab region, thereby enhancing, security, and stability, through the strengthening of civil society, and building up national capacity. The purpose of this project is to enhance Maimana City Park, which is a focal point in Maimana, by improving the quality of the pathways, empower women of all ethnicities to use the park by providing a "female garden", improve female physical and mental health and that of their children's, and refurbish the stadium's podium area for public events and football matches. To enhance social confidence and provide a focal point for enjoyment, by both genders, within the city.
IDP Intentions Survey 2006 (INS)

This project will carry out a survey to collect data on the intentions, motivations and concerns of IDPs, displaced in Northern states of Sudan, regarding voluntary return, their desire to settle elsewhere or their decision to remain in current places of displacement. The IDP Intention Survey has been requested by the members of the RWG that met in Rumbek on April 2006. The survey will provide update on the IDP intentions to return in the season 2006 / 2007 and indicate expected returnee destinations, routes and returnee profile including basic demographic and socio economic characteristics and current living conditions. The survey includes information and health module as well. It is designed to serve as a useful tool for government, UN agencies and other organizations for planning return and reintegration assistance and operational support to return of IDPs to their places of origin.
Placing Foreign Health Care Professionals in South Africa

The project proposed here is a preliminary assessment phase of a subsequent programme that aims to strengthen the capacity of the public sector health care services in South Africa by facilitating the recruitment and placement of foreign health care professionals. IOM's regional office in Pretoria (MRF Pretoria) will assess the interest and availability of health care professionals in three selected developed countries to work in the public sector in South Africa, via a mapping exercise of relevant institutions and associations. The assessment, which will be implemented with assistance from IOM offices in the selected three countries, will form the basis for subsequent information campaigns, and other activities that will complement the work of South African local partners who work in recruiting foreign health care professionals in the public sector health care of South Africa.
