Migration Health Research Area/Expertise:
My Ph.D. thesis involves the promotion of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) among newly arrived/migrants in Sweden, by securing the right to culturally sensitive SRHR-information. Mainly, I am investigating the possibilities for strengthening established arenas within the reception system and context of resettlement, for integrating and quality ensure health communication within SRHR, using cultural mediators as a channel for communication. The focus of my research is to evaluate a national capacity building intervention targeting cultural mediators, and outcomes in terms of SRHR-competency and uptake amongst newly arrived migrants. Keywords are empowerment and sexual health literacy. This includes working for the development of supportive structures for culturally and diversity sensitive health communication, and professionalism. Further, it discusses the need for structures to sustain such knowledge development, amongst professionals as well as migrants.
