Migration Health Research Area/Expertise
I study zoonotic disease dynamics in displaced populations. Disease transmission between animals and humans, the increased risk of zoonoses in areas where people and animals with weakened immune systems live closely together, and the emergence of infectious diseases among naive host communities are areas that need to be increasingly researched. Previously I worked with the UN, INGOs, and government across Asia and Eastern Africa focusing on forced migration, disaster displacement, human rights, and shelter. This includes research on community resilience in disaster displacement for the Norwegian Refugee Council, a desk study on ‘Child Labour in Migration’ for IOM/UNICEF, work with UNODC on human trafficking and research reports on human rights and recruitment of labour migrant fishers from Indonesia for ILO. In addition, I conducted assessments and evaluations for Oxfam’s humanitarian refugee response programme in northern Greece and GIZ Jordan.
