In the last years, a need has emerged among experts, practitioners and humanitarians to build capacity and awareness on Community Based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support practices and processes in all emergencies and especially those brining to displacement. With this project, IOM aims to continue contributing to capacity and quality control of relevant practices, through two main actions: a) Support in its capacity as co-chair in the workplan of the Working Group on Community Based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support of the reference group on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in emergency settings, affiliated to the IASC; and b) The dissemination and further upgrade of the Manual on Community Based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in emergencies and displacement, developed by IOM in May 2019, which is based on the guidance note.
Provision of Training for First-Line Health Professionals and Law Enforcement Officers Working at Local Level with Migrants and Refugees, and Training of Trainers

The objective of the tender is to support European Union Member States in reducing knowledge gaps of different categories of health professionals, law enforcement officers, social workers and coach trainers for health and other professionals in respect to health-related border policies and health challenges faced by migrant populations. The project will develop or reinforce the skills of professionals working with migrants and refugees, promote understanding, positive attitudes, and promote a holistic approach in the work with migrants and refugees at first point of arrival, transit, and destination of 33 European countries.

This programme should bring to a much better understanding of refugees and migrants’ health condition from the health and law enforcement professionals of EU members states. Furthermore, EU efforts are targeted to support the adaptation of the appropriate clinical attitude towards refugees and migrants’ health needs and in particular towards the mental health needs of fragile subgroups, such victims of violence and stronger control of infectious disease risk in the early phase of migrant’s care.

To provide support to EU MS under migratory pressure in addressing the health needs of arriving migrants while preventing possible communicable diseases and cross-border health events through strengthening national and cross-border disease surveillance and response capacities. at designated hotspots and in key areas of reception. In order to achieve the project objectives, a national consultative process will be initiated via the organization of exploratory missions and national consultative meetings to take stock of the actual situation and select appropriate implementation sites.
Infectious Disease Health Services for Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Europe - Belgium

The objective of the scoping study is to collect information on the availability and provision of communicable diseases services to refugees and asylum seekers at the moment in Europe. In order to ensure the high quality of the research, IOM will subcontract the National Institute for Infectious Diseases “L. Spallanzani”, Italy - INMI to act as advisor for the production of DL1-DL4 and lead the finalization of the DL5 Final report, outlining the results from the scoping study. Activities will include a desk review, interviews with stakeholders, field visit(s) to minimum one EU MS and establishing synergizes with the Equi-Health, EC co-funded action. More specifically, the work will be divided in three phases: 1) Inception phase, 2) Research phase, and 3) Final phase.
