Provision of Transportation Assistance to DRC Refugees in Lunda Norte Province –Angola

The proposed project will enable IOM to provide safe transportation assistance to 7,500 incoming Congolese (DRC) refugees traveling from the hosting centres of the Government and borders points to the reception centres within Lunda Norte province. IOM will work to secure that all cases related to health concern are informed in time during pre-departure process determining the health status of the refugees. IOM will rely on the results of nurses/medical escorts and health operations partners/UNHCR and government staff’s screening exercise of asylum seekers which will take place prior to travel checks.
Reintegration Assistance to Returnees and Host Communities in Uige Province, Angola

The overall objective of this project is to contribute to the efforts of the Government of Angola (GoA) in enhancing the quality of life experienced by returnees and their host communities in Uige province. This will be done by IOM and its partners through the improvement of housing capacity, livelihoods, health, education, water and sanitation, and through social cohesion building to the benefit of both returnees and host communities.

PHAMESA II aims to contribute to the reduced health vulnerability of all those affected by the migration process in East and Southern Africa, by achieving the following: 1. Increased availability, accessibility and acceptability of services that improve the health of migrants in identified spaces of vulnerability 3. Evidenced-based policy and/or legal instruments developed to realize migrants’ right to health 4. Improved sustainability of migration and health responses in the region.

Disaster Assistance to Angolan Returnees in Uige Province (ASEPU)

The overall objective is to enable vulnerable persons that were expelled and are leaving the camps of Damba and Makela do Zombo to produce their own food thus removing the need for food aid support and reestablish food and nutrition security in communities with high returnee percentage in Uige. The project's purposes are for the emergency purchase and distribution of essential seeds and traditional farming tools (essential seeds: cassava, beans, potatoes, rice, corn and horticultural seeds) to 800 households, and to provide technical input from farming expert on how best plant and treat the seeds.
Responding to HIV and AIDS in Communities of Return and Absorption in Angola

The present project is a joint project of IOM and UNICEF and that shall combine the efforts to include HIV awareness in the school curriculum and the efforts to sensitize selected return and receiving communities in Moxico and Kuando Kubango Province on HIV and AIDS. This project will contribute to reducing HIV risk of Angolan returnees and receiving communities in Angola by training teachers and community activists, raising overall awareness on HIV and AIDS, and delivering strong advocacy messages aimed at reducing the stigmatization of returnees, who are often seen as carriers of HIV given the fact that they are returning from neighboring countries with significantly higher HIV prevalence than Angola.
Children, Food Security and Nutrition in Angola (CFN)

The United Nations Joint Program (JP) on Children, Food Security and Nutrition in Angola, aims to alleviate child hunger and under nutrition in three target provinces and enhance advocacy for child friendly policies while improving the assessment, monitoring and evaluation of food and nutrition of children in beneficiary areas. The JP also focuses on strengthening local capacities national, provincial, municipal and community levels to develop, implement and monitor effective policies and programs concerning the access to food of children. This joint United Nations program also seeks to further contribute to the objectives of the Estrategia de Combate a Pobreza (ECP), the Angola poverty eradication strategy.
