COVID19 Led Virtualization: Green Data Center for Information Systems Research

Recent lockdowns over the world due to COVID19 pandemic accelerated virtualization of our social and work life. While virtualization contributes to reducing green-house-gas (GhG) through reduced mobility, it also dramatically increases energy consumption by data centers (DCs) which host large number of servers for realizing virtualization. This paper argues that current engineering-oriented studies on Green DCs need to be complemented by IS scholars to address human and organizational issues. © 2020 Taylor & Francis.

Leisure pursuits in South Africa as observed during the COVID-19 pandemic

This paper aims to present the leisure pursuits in South Africa as observed during the COVID-19 pandemic. While the world was hit by the pandemic as early as January 2020, South Africa recorded its first case on 5 March 2020. A five-stage lockdown was introduced to flatten the curve and prepare the heath system during the first level. Lockdown regulations were severe, with restricted movement only for essential services. The extreme lockdown measures had a visible impact on the leisure and tourism industry.

Hazardous confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic: The fate of migrants detained yet nondeportable

As the French government decided on a lockdown of the population to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it soon appeared that, in an apparent paradox, two forcibly confined categories were particularly at risk: prisoners and detainees. Confronted with multiple mobilizations from civil society, authorities reacted in two distinct ways, significantly reducing the demographic of correctional facilities to allow for protective measures, but refusing to temporarily close detention centers, despite their insalubrious conditions and the impossibility of organizing deportations.

Network characteristics and visualization of COVID-19 outbreak in a large detention facility in the United States - Cook County, Illinois, 2020

What is already known about this topic? Network analyses and visualization can provide information about outbreak transmission dynamics. What is added by this report? Analysis of detained person and staff member movements during a COVID-19 outbreak at Cook County Jail in Illinois found fewer connections among detained persons with COVID-19 than expected, suggesting that interventions and medical isolation practices were effective at reducing transmission.

Effects of covid-19-related air traffic restrictions on local air quality at zurich airport

This paper discusses how the efforts of authorities to limit the spread of COVID-19 have led to restrictions in people’s mobility with significant impacts on air traffic operations worldwide. Zurich airport has experienced a drop of 91 per cent in aircraft movements from February to April 2020. The decrease in activity has led to a decrease in local emissions of 83 per cent for NOx, while NO2 concentrations at and around the airport decreased by only 50 per cent. Ultrafine particle numbers show similar values.

Current situation of covid-19 in northern cyprus [Situation actuelle de la covid-19 dans la partie nord de chypre]

Background: The public health burden of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is expected to increase and ur-gent strict measures by decision-makers is critical for the containment of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) outbreak worldwide. Aims: This study aimed to give a real-time analysis of COVID-19 presence in northern Cyprus. Methods: All official SARS-CoV-2 positive cases were tracked and reported in terms of the origin, nationality, and transmission routes. Preventive measures taken after the first reported case were analyzed for their effectiveness as control strategies.
